Boiler Types

COMBI BOILERS

  • Provide both central heating and instant hot water on demand without a separate hot water tank.
  • Compact and efficient, great for smaller homes.
  • Energy-efficient due to on-demand heating, which can reduce utility bills.
  • Requires less space compared to system or conventional boilers.
  • Simple installation and low maintenance.
  • Ideal for homes with limited space and fewer bathrooms.

SYSTEM BOILERS

  • Work with a separate hot water storage tank but don’t require a water feed tank in the loft.
  • Suitable for homes with multiple bathrooms needing a steady hot water supply.
  • Hot water stored in the tank is available instantly for use.
  • More complex installation than combi boilers but better for high water demand.
  • Offers good pressure and water flow throughout the home.
  • Requires space for the hot water cylinder but less than conventional boilers.

CONVENTIONAL BOILERS

  • Use a separate hot water cylinder and a cold water storage tank (usually in the loft).
  • Often found in older homes with traditional plumbing systems.
  • Reliable for homes with high hot water demand and multiple bathrooms.
  • Provides hot water to several taps simultaneously without pressure loss.
  • More complex and costly installation compared to combi and system boilers.
  • Requires more space due to the need for storage tanks.
  • Cold water tank needs regular maintenance to prevent contamination.

ELECTRIC BOILERS

  • Use electricity instead of gas or oil to heat water.
  • Compact and ideal for properties without gas supply.
  • Quiet operation with minimal maintenance.
  • Easy to install and often used as secondary or backup heating.
  • Generally more expensive to run than gas boilers, but cleaner and greener if using renewable electricity.
  • Suitable for small homes, flats, or where low heating demand is required.
